How to import your Character.AI characters and chats to Charms

If you have a story on Character.AI, you can bring it to Charms and keep it going. The import uses a free Chrome extension on a computer. Open the character or chat on character.ai, click Bring to Charms, and the character arrives in your Charms account as a private character, together with the conversation you had open. Charms is an independent app, not affiliated with Character.AI.

You need a computer with Google Chrome, your Character.AI account signed in on character.ai in that browser, and a Charms account. Phones cannot run Chrome extensions, so the import happens on a computer. After that, the character and the chat are in your Charms account on every device, your phone included. If you only use Character.AI in its app, sign in once on character.ai in Chrome.

Click Bring to Charms in your chat.
Import a character and its chat
Add the Charms extension from the Chrome Web Store. Open a character’s profile or one of your chats on character.ai. Click Bring to Charms, read what will be sent and confirm Import to Charms. A Charms tab opens; sign in if you need to. From a profile you get the character with its greeting. From a chat you also get that conversation. Repeat for each character or chat you want to bring.

After the import, open the chat in Charms and give the character a short reminder of the moment you want to continue.

What is copied and what stays behind
Charms copies the character’s name, image, profile, greeting and, when Character.AI makes it available, its definition. From a chat it copies the messages, the reply you chose and its alternatives, dates, pinned messages, the chat’s memory box and your selected persona when it can be identified. Long chats are supported; if a story is longer than one import can hold, the most recent messages come first. Audio and image attachments are not included.
When the definition is not shared
Character.AI does not always share a character’s advanced instructions. In that case Charms adapts the personality from the profile, the greeting and a sample of the conversation, so the character keeps its voice and its story. You can review and edit that personality in Charms. Character.AI’s internal model memory cannot be exported; Charms gradually turns your imported story into memories of its own.
Privacy and cost
Imported characters are private, so only you see them. Your Character.AI password and session are never sent to Charms: the extension reads the character or chat open in your browser and hands it to your Charms account. Importing is free. Chatting afterwards follows Charms’ usage allowances, credits and plans; check what is included in the app.
